Youth Advisory Board

Young people have a powerful voice and influence when it comes to media and media use. They know how to use technology creatively for learning, connecting with friends, and engaging in activities. They also know too well how stressful, harmful, and scary the online world can be. We’ve created a Youth Advisory Board (also known as our Youth Media Squad) to give students a platform to share their knowledge and help youth-serving professionals design authentic learning experiences that help young people navigate the media landscape of today’s world.

Note: Please ensure you are available the second Monday of every month before applying. We meet virtually from 7 pm to 8:30 pm ET (4 pm to 5:30 pm PT). Our first meeting of the new term will be held on Monday, May 11th.

Current Members

Our Youth Media Squad members are student leaders from across the country who are passionate about sharing their experiences and making a difference. From painters to podcasters, we have a wide range of media interests and backgrounds represented in our group!

These amazing students are building their leadership skills through work sessions and discussions with field experts. They advise us on programs and inspire us by making media about issues they care about. Some of their passion projects include highlighting ways to decrease our carbon footprints, manage our screen-time, find our flow, and get better sleep. We are excited to introduce you to the Squad!

Jenna Bailey High School Junior

I am currently a junior high honors student at the Academy for Science and Design in Nashua, NH, but I am from Pelham, NH. I am an avid member of my school's drama club, chorus, and mock trial team. When not participating in school, work, or activities I am an avid reader and writer specifically in poetry. I also enjoy watching movies and playing with my dog. I always love looking for ways that I can grow as a person and better myself whether it is academically or socially. I joined the Youth Advisory Board to gain a better understanding of the effects of media, and use this information to teach others about it as well.

Koah Brown High School Junior

Hi! My name is Koah Brown, and I am a junior at Eastside Preparatory School in the Bellevue area of Washington. I am passionate about youth leadership, community service, media, and urban issues, especially homelessness and access to resources. I founded VolunTeen, an organization that connects high school students with volunteering opportunities, and I am also involved with the Bellevue Youth Council and Sophia’s Way, a nonprofit supporting people experiencing homelessness. I have also been doing filmmaking for eight years, which has shaped my interest in storytelling and how media can bring attention to important social issues. I joined Media Power Youth’s Advisory Board because I believe media can help people think critically, share stories, and create real change in their communities.

Lina Dan High School Junior

Hi, my name is Lina and I am a junior in high school in Pennsylvania. Outside of school, I enjoy playing soccer, listening to music, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. I am especially interested in psychology and communications—particularly how the brain and behavioral health influence the way we communicate, form relationships, and understand one another. I am excited to join the Youth Advisory Board because I am passionate about exploring the evolving world of media, its influence on youth, and how effective communication can support mental and emotional well-being.

Daniel Dipierro High School Junior

I attend public high school in New Jersey. I am a filmmaker, documentarian, and music composer. In my school’s Digital Media Academy, I pursue my passion for scriptwriting, video production, editing, music scoring, sound design, graphics, and 2D and 3D animation. My favorite documentary subject is the space program. I have a YouTube Channel, COUNTDOWN, where I post rare NASA archival footage I requested as a National Archives and Records Administration researcher. I have a video production job for my school’s television channel. I play baritone horn in the marching band, euphonium in concert band, and trombone in Jazz Ensemble. I also play guitar, ukulele, and keyboard. I am active in the Drama Club where I have performed in Mean Girls, Jr. and Shrek, and I am a member of the International Thespian Society. I am an Air Force Junior ROTC cadet where I focus on aerospace, leadership, and service. I joined the Media Power Youth Advisory Board to work with others who share my interests in making media that has a positive impact on society, so we can advocate for young people to have access to tools and training to make media to express themselves and connect with others.

Aisha Elrahhal High School Junior

Hello! My name is Aisha, and I'm a rising 11th grader. I attend Denbigh High School's Aviation Academy and the Governor's School for Science and Technology. I participate in varsity golf, cross-country, swimming, soccer, and Academic Bowl. I also work as a soccer referee and am active in the Student Council Association (SCA), Media Power Youth, the Youth Volunteer Corps, the Mayor's Youth Commission, and the Young Adult Police Commission.<br /> I joined the Media Power Youth Advisory Board to use my voice in a positive way and expand my outreach through social media. I am currently taking flight lessons to learn to fly a Cessna 172 and sailplanes. I enjoy serving my community, promoting positive change, and making a meaningful impact through leadership and service.

Aaron Gelman High School Freshman

I’m a rising high school freshman from New York. My favorite subjects in school are math and social studies, and I love to spend my free time playing and watching sports, hanging out with my friends, and volunteering with causes that mean a lot to me. I play competitive tennis on my high school team and in tournaments, school volleyball, and as many rounds of golf as I can squeeze in. I volunteer as a tennis coach with ACEing Autism, which helps children with autism benefit from social connections and fitness, and spend time cooking and baking for the Ronald McDonald House. I’m excited to share my voice and ideas with the Media Power Youth Advisory Board. From AI to texting to social media apps, it’s not easy navigating media and technology as a young teen. I’m eager to figure it out together and help others along the way!In the digital space, I channel my creativity into producing and editing short-form videos for my YouTube channel. I am excited to be a part of the Youth Advisory Board for Media because I deeply believe in the power of modern platforms to connect and inspire people. Through this opportunity, I hope to bring my firsthand experience in content creation to the table, helping to amplify authentic youth voices and make a positive, lasting impact on today's media landscape.

Roger Gelman High School Sophomore

I’m a rising sophomore in New York who loves math and is active in my school’s Model UN and Wall Street Investors clubs. I’ve learned a lot of my leadership skills, resilience, and drive from sports. I play varsity tennis and regularly compete in USTA tournaments. I play on my school’s JV volleyball team and also enjoy golf, especially rounds with my dad and brother. I love giving back to the community through working with children. I’m the program director of a local chapter of ACEing Autism, which helps children with autism benefit from social connections and fitness. I tutor middle school students in math and volunteer as an assistant teacher at my synagogue’s Hebrew school. I feel lucky to be part of the Media Power Youth Advisory Board because I think it’s so important to learn more about how my generation can use media responsibly. I’m excited to help others think critically and use media in positive ways.

Julia Herstein High School Freshman

My name is Julia, and I am a freshman at Noblesville High School in Noblesville, Indiana. I am passionate in many fields, but especially music and science. I enjoy various extracurriculars including flute and piano, and have co-founded Music4All, an organization dedicated to spreading the joy of music. I am also part of my school’s youth advisory board and part of the National Junior Honors Society. In my free time I love drawing, talking with friends, and hanging out with my cat, Jazzy. Through Media Power Youth I hope to help maximize the power of communication that is the internet for the better, as well as expand my perspective through meeting new people.

Emily Liu High School Sophomore

Hi everyone! My name is Emily Liu and I’m an incoming sophomore in New York City. At school, I participate in DECA, Model UN, and The Survey (my school’s newspaper) because of my love for public speaking and journalism. Outside of school, I run during the sunsets, eat new cuisines, and doom-scroll on SubStack. At the Media Youth Advisory Board, I’m excited to indulge myself through interactions with my peers and work towards making the digital world a better place within media.

Kellan Price High School Junior

I live in Connecticut and am a junior at a high school with a focus on global studies. At school, I enjoy history and computer science, and am a member of my school’s technology team. Outside of school, I compete in archery, play in a steel pan drum ensemble, and am an aspiring filmmaker. I joined the Media Power Youth’s Advisory Board because I hope to advocate for the importance of mental health in discussions of media and technology.

Shreya Rajesh High School Junior

My name is Shreya, and I am a rising junior at the Academy for Science and Design. I enjoy exploring new ideas as co-captain of my robotics team, creating content for social impact as a marketing intern, and developing STEM programs for kids. In my free time, I love reading, writing, designing websites, and finding creative ways to help my community.

Rimsha Sehar High School Senior

Hi, my name is Rimsha Sehar, and I am a rising senior at The Derryfield School. I am actively involved in my school community through robotics, tennis, soccer, and band, where I play percussion. I also enjoy volunteering and participating in projects that make a positive impact. Outside of school, I love baking, arts and crafts, and learning about emerging technologies, especially the ethical questions surrounding artificial intelligence and its role in society. I joined the Media Youth Advisory Board because I am passionate about amplifying youth voices, exploring how media shapes perspectives, and collaborating with others to create meaningful change in our communities.

Serena Shah High School Freshman

My name is Serena Shah, and I am a freshman at Princeton Day School in Princeton, New Jersey. I play squash, enjoy singing and performing in musical theatre. I also enjoy traveling with my family, exploring new places and going to the beach. I joined the Media Power Youth Advisory Board so I can help youth use media responsibly. I am also looking forward to educating and influencing younger kids in my school and community. I am excited to be a part of the board and to make an impact!

April Surac High School Student

My name is April Surac, and I’m a high school student from Florida working at the intersection of media, technology, education, and public policy. I’m a Horatio Alger National Scholar and published student researcher who has contributed to work through Stanford University and MGH/Harvard Medical School-affiliated labs, and I serve as a youth advisor with Harvard’s Making Caring Common initiative at the Graduate School of Education. As a Global Campaign for Education U.S. Fellow, I’m advocating for legislation and funding tied to literacy, education access, and responsible AI policy in Florida schools. Through my photography, film, research, and advocacy, I hope to use the Media Power Youth Advisory Board to help young people build the media literacy, civic judgment, and creative confidence needed to navigate a digital world increasingly shaped by algorithms, misinformation, and AI.

Varun Swamy High School Sophomore

My name is Varun Swamy, and I am a sophomore at Novi High School in Michigan. A few activities I enjoy are chess, tennis, content creation, and playing the cello. In my free time, I love working on my YouTube channel, creating shorts to upload. I joined Media Power Youth because of my interest in media, and I want to utilize my skills to enhance the voice of our generation in media around the world. I have a passion to bring awareness about environmental sustainability to young minds, and through this platform, I am hoping to bring my message out further.

Nikhil Talluri High School Sophomore

My name is Nikhil Talluri. I am a rising sophomore at Northville High School in Michigan with a strong passion for digital content creation and community leadership. Kiran Thamman High School Freshman

Hi, my name is Kiran Thamman and I am currently a freshmen based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I’m involved in public speaking through varsity speech and debate as well as playing tennis for my high school. I also love hanging out with family and friends, listening to my favorite songs, and traveling to new places. I joined Media Power Youth because of my past speech and research on social medias affect on the younger generation. I want to focus on utilizing the media to amplify authentic voices and as well as improving media literacy in order to help kids navigate changes and know what is truly credible.

Marina Votek High School Sophomore

Hi! I'm Marina Votek, a sophomore at American Heritage School of Palm Beach County, Florida. I was born in Russia but moved to New York City at a young age and currently live in Florida. I enjoy learning new languages, traveling, and dancing in my free time. I’m passionate about the field of psychology and the way that expanding the knowledge of our minds can impact society positively. My interest in psychology led me to join the Media Power Youth Advisory Board, where I want to help improve how media and technology affect my generation.

Luannie Wang High School Junior

Hi, I'm Luannie! I’m a junior, and I attend high school in southern Connecticut. I love sports, and I play basketball and tennis. At school, I founded and lead a food-insecurity-focused club, along with being a board member for the school’s service coalition/Key club and director of the Sustainability Board. I’m very passionate about environmental science, climate change, community, and justice — all of which have led me to work with a wide scope of groups, from local coalitions and grassroots movements to government-sanctioned and international organizations. I joined the Youth Advisory Board to learn more about the various applications of media in advocacy as well as apply my personal experience to inspire others towards pursuing outreach and service!

Tyler Washington High School, Junior

My name is Tyson Washington, and I am a junior at Detroit Catholic Central High School. I’m excited to join the Youth Advisory Board to spread awareness about how teens can use media to help their own communities big or small. I actively participate in my school’s Media Team, newspaper, wrestling, drama club, DECA, and create gameday graphics for athletic teams at my school.

Tiger Zhang High School Junior

Hi! My name is Tiger Zhang, and I'm from Manhattan in New York City. I am a member of my school's robotics team, and I will be a high school junior next year. In my free time, I love playing video games, reading, and listening to and playing music. I joined the Media Power Youth Advisory Board to discuss the importance of online mental health and find ways to incorporate technology into our every day lives while still staying safe.

Judelise Carbone High School Senior

Hey! I am Judelise Carbone but everyone calls me Juju! I live in a small town in New Hampshire that borders Massachusetts. I will be a Senior for the 2024-25 school year. I am involved in various organizations in my community such as Theater, National Honors Society, School Climate Committee, and most importantly being Slime Club President! I also love playing video games and talking to different people around the world learning about different cultures. Something that is very important to me is spreading awareness and advocating for those with disabilities. I have a chronic illness called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which affects many aspects of my life. I want others with disabilities to feel safe, seen, and most importantly included. That is one of my major reasons I joined the Youth Advisory Board because I want to learn and grow so I can make a difference!

Daisy LaPlante High School Senior

My name is Daisy LaPlante. I'm a senior at Concord High School in Concord, New Hampshire. I excel in math, science, and English, and seek opportunities to expand my knowledge through volunteering and additional learning opportunities. I plan to pursue a career in engineering one day! I’m the president of the Tri-m National Music Honors Society, vice president of the French club, and a member of the Student Government, Journalism Club, and National Honor Society. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering, playing music, watching horror movies, and reading. I prioritize communication and making sure my goals are clear. Clara Park High School Senior

My name is Clara Park, and I attend Biotechnology High School in New Jersey. I am an International Baccalaureate student with a passion for both the arts and science. In my community, I lead teams at my school’s Biotech Bootcamp, teach design at a fashion design school, and create innovative solutions for environmental issues in my community. In my free time, I enjoy designing and sewing garments, watching the sunrise, and exploring the environment. Tarunya Dharmarajan High School Senior

Hello! My name is Tarunya Dharmarajan and I am a senior based out of the Bay Area. I began my journey in advocacy during my time as a volunteer for a state senate campaign, learning about the issues that affected my community. Living in Silicon Valley, I began noticing the impact technology has on humanity, in both good and bad ways. Ever since then, I've worked on researching the social consequences of our devices. As a member of the youth advisory board, I hope to use my knowledge to promote the safe use of technology, to create a world where technology helps humanity. In my free time, I enjoy going on drives, working on my DJ skills, and trying new foods!

My name is Geo, and I am a senior at Brookline High School in Brookline, Massachusetts. In my free time, I love to write, practice graphic design, and cross-country ski in the winter. At my school, I'm Co-Editor-in-Chief of our student-run newspaper, and I lead an initiative aimed at understanding student mental health quantitatively. I joined the Media Power Youth Advisory Board to utilize my own experiences with digital wellbeing as a means of helping others.

Yaoxuan Xie High School Junior

As a listener, communicator, and constant observer, I often express myself through writing and journalism. I am an active member in Model UN, building D.E.I. (diversity, equity, and inclusion), and SGA. During my free time, I enjoy socializing and love hanging out with friends at the beach or shopping at the mall.

I am a high school sophomore from New Jersey. I enjoy being outdoors and playing all kinds of sports. I play soccer for my high school team. I also enjoy traveling, meeting new people, and listening to their stories. I am with the Media Power Youth team because I am passionate about creating safe digital spaces and making digital experiences productive and positive for everyone.

I am a rising senior at Riverside High School. I am on the varsity swim team, and a coxswain for the crew team. I enjoy volunteering, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. I volunteer at a local hospital and aspire to pursue sports medicine. I am interested in being a part of the youth advisory board in order to use my voice and work with the community. Vick Mahindru High School Senior

Hello! My name is Vick, I am a rising senior currently attending Manchester High School West. I joined the Media Power Youth Advisory Board as I am passionate in computer science and combining this with public speaking and leadership. I enjoy Computer Science, particularly coding and artificial intelligence, Journalism, and Political Science. I hope to connect with others through my service on this youth advisory board with peers sharing similar interests and learning new subjects! Outside of MPY, I'm an active member of Key Club International and Journalism Club. In my free time, I enjoy mountain biking and playing soccer as these activities provide a creative outlet to learn and grow.

Lane Daniels High School Senior

My name is Lane Daniels, and I am from southern New Hampshire. I am a senior for the 2023-2024 school year. I love doing theater of all kinds, and am passionate about political history and studio art. I joined the Media Youth Power Advisory Board to help educators and adults brainstorm and improve students' experiences and relationships with technology and social media in their daily lives. I am very excited about this opportunity and to work with this amazing group of people for the coming year!

Zoë Henry-Hughes High School Senior

My name is Zoë Henry-Hughes. I am 17 years old and I am going into my senior year of high school. I love art in almost all forms. I love to draw, do photography, and paint. I am very active in activism groups, such as the Youth Activism Project at Boston RPM where we have done projects, workshops, and research to fight discrimination towards the LGBTQ+ community. I am very honored to be with Media Power Youth and their Youth Advisory Board.

Lily Pressler High School Senior

Hi! I am a high school senior from the Midwest state of South Dakota. In my free time, I attend my local youth group, play fastpitch softball, read, and involve myself in the community. Most of my time is devoted to mentoring at the Boy's & Girl's Club. Through my experiences there, I have developed a great passion for children and helping youth build up firm foundations. I joined this board because I want to help youth use technology and media in a healthy and positive way. At the same time, I hope to also make connections with the other members and continue to expand my perspectives!

Paige Stehl High School Senior

Hi, I’m Paige Stehle! I’m a senior at Oyster River High School in Durham, NH. I’m an avid volunteer, play the viola in several youth orchestras, and am a leader within my school’s National Honor Society and Student Mental Health Team. I joined Media Power Youth’s Advisory Board to talk to like-minded people about how to make inroads in the subjects I am passionate about, such as mental health awareness and body neutrality.

Emma Abramson High School Junior

At school, I am the Junior Class President, and outside of school, I am a competitive junior golfer and play tournaments around the country. In 2019, I was selected to be a kid reporter for Sports Illustrated Kids where I have interviewed famous athletes, attended national sporting events, and published many articles.

Amber Houle High School Junior

I absolutely love animals, particularly the fluffy or cute ones. I have one dog of my own, and I enjoy taking him on hikes. A hobby of mine is building 3D metal structures of different things like the Eiffel Tower or the Hogwarts Express using kits that I have. I joined the board because I love being involved and helping others.

Francesca Melia High School Senior

I am a high school senior living in sunny Columbia, South Carolina. I love spending time in nature, swimming, and cuddling with my cat. I am an incredibly passionate advocate for social justice and equality. I love helping others and trying to better the planet.

Ashley Baldridge High School Junior

I am a junior at Berlin High School. I’m involved in soccer, basketball, and track & field, as well as Key Club, National Honors Society, Congress of Future Medical Leaders, and the National Society of High School Scholars. I enjoy helping out in my community whether it’s volunteering at the local soup kitchen or cleaning up a park!

Kaitlyn Landry High School Senior

Hi! My name is Kaitlyn Landry, I will be a senior this fall and I live in Massachusetts. I'm very excited to be a part of the Media Power Youth Board. It will be a way to improve my knowledge and enhance my passion for media. It will also strengthen my skills towards what I love most: Broadcast Journalism. Some of my other passions relate to creating art, spending time with nature, and playing sports like tennis and volleyball.

Chloe Orlich High School Junior

I attend The Pomfret School in Pomfret, Connecticut. I play soccer, ice hockey, and lacrosse; these are my absolute favorite sports. I joined the Media Power Youth advisory board to expand my voice outside of Pomfret to make a difference in the social media world while building my confidence when interacting with new groups of people. I love to read romance novels, write in my school newspaper, tan in the sun, exercise, and socialize!

Kenny Olibrice High School Sophomore

I am a computer science student at the Founders Academy in Manchester, NH. I am currently working with Media Power Youth to develop and improve a middle school curriculum focused on developing emotional intelligence and awareness in students.

Sophia Bianchi High School Senior

I am a high-school senior from North Kingstown, Rhode Island. During the school year, I am involved with the performing arts department and clubs such as Student Council and Culture Share. I love music, reading, camping with my family, and spending time with friends!

Dhruv Penumatsa High School Sophomore

I love to swim and be outdoors. Some of my favorite activities include hiking, swimming, and camping. I also play soccer and basketball. I joined the Youth Advisory Board because I wanted to learn more about media and its effect on teenagers as well as inform my peers about the dangers of social media.

Emerson Carracedo High School Junior

I am passionate about improving media for kids and teens. I am an award-winning classical singer and am a member of my school's choir. I am also a part of my school's Spanish and music honor societies. I also enjoy reading.

Clark Cayer High School Freshman

I currently live in the small town Candia, New Hampshire, with my parents, brother, and my Bernese Mountain Dog. I also work as a journalist, and am currently writing for the "atHome" section in New England magazine. For the last year, I have devoted much of my time to creating my own podcast, called "Life According To A Middle Schooler".

Delia Bousquet High School Sophmore

I go to the Pomfret School in Connecticut and I compete in cross country, crew, triathlon, swimming, and biking. Outside of school and sports, I am interested in video production and robotics. I joined the board because I want to help create effective, positive media to combat the negative.

Jessica Lee High School Senior

I am a high-school senior in California. I am an avid reader, love snacking, and spend a lot of time on my phone. I spend my time Irish dancing and advocating for LGBTQ+, mental health, and women’s rights among others groups. I am also a part of the Technology and Mental Wellness Youth Advisory Board at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Joel Lederman High School Senior

I’m Joel Lederman, and I am from Marblehead, MA. I will be a senior at Gann Academy in the 2025-2026 school year, and I am the editor-in-chief of our school newspaper, where I lead a team of student writers and editors in reporting on important issues to our school community. Outside of school, I love to read, write, and play soccer. I am also the founder of All About Town, a civic news platform that leverages AI in a software I developed to transcribe and summarize local government meetings, making municipal committees far more transparent and accessible to citizens. I joined Media Power Youth’s Advisory Board because I care about how the media can empower young people to think critically, share their voices, and strengthen their communities as I have done in my own home town of Marblehead.

Mac Lichoulas High School Senior

My name is Mac Lichoulas and I will be a Senior in the fall! I am originally from Hancock, New Hampshire but I attend high school in Washington DC. When I think of a good leader, I think of people that can get things done, but at the same time care about their surroundings. Working with the Youth Media Squad will allow me to learn what's going on nationwide, which is something that really interests me. Social media affects the lives of youth. By getting the word out about self-esteem and safety I hope to impact struggling people, gain insight, and learn how social media is viewed by others.

Hello my name is Jaida Wentworth. I am currently a sophomore from Rochester, New Hampshire. In my free time I enjoy playing Lacrosse, Basketball, and Softball. I am a member of FBLA, educators rising, and NHS. I feel like the good qualities of a leader are to be passionate, caring, adaptable, and supportive. I joined this board because I want people to be able to hear my opinions and be able to create a change.

Kavya Datt High School Senior

Hi! My name is Kavya and I’m a senior from the Bay Area in California. I love traveling, learning about our universe, cars, and taking photographs. I spend a lot of time volunteering in my community and am involved in a few clubs at my school. In my free time, you can often find me reading, painting, listening to music, or watching TV. As a debater, I am passionate about using my voice to advocate for change, especially in the fields of health and climate. That’s why I joined the Media Power Youth Advisory Board; I’m excited to contribute to the cause, engage with like-minded peers from across the country, and expand my knowledge.

Akshar Patel High School Senior

I am a rising senior living in the town of Cary, North Carolina who is passionate about the fields of computer science, law, and history. I am the president of my school’s debate club and an active member of the Model UN club. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, photography and photo editing, and exploring new cities. Hello! My name is Fatima Damachi and I will be a senior in the 2025-26 school year at Munster High School. I enjoy playing piano, travelling, and hanging out with friends. I am involved in various activities like DECA, Black Culture Club, and National Honour Society. I joined Media Power Youth because I believe providing youth with tools to navigate media responsibly, can build resilience against negative influence. This role offers a chance to contribute to meaningful initiatives that amplify youth voices and build media literacy.

Jada Jordan High School Senior

Hi! My name is Jada Jordan, and I’m starting my senior year in the fall. I’m a proud Detroiter and deeply passionate about media literacy, youth empowerment, and anything creative. I write and perform spoken word by day and serve as NHS president, cultural club founder, writer/editor/web designer of my school newspaper by night. I’m committed to using storytelling as a tool for human connection and advocacy, and lead tutoring initiatives for both high schoolers and middle schoolers with that intention. I hope to create media that reflects nuanced truth and community action.
